California Department of General Services (DGS) serves as business manager for the state of California. DGS offers perhaps the most diverse set of services in all of California state government. Our employees do everything from managing construction projects to procuring vital equipment to overseeing a statewide vehicle fleet - and more.

“Opportunity” Inspiration: The DGS Office of Small Business and Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise Service's (OSDS) daily mission is to assist businesses with certification and access to procurement opportunities through Outreach, Education, and Advocacy. 2021 Horizon for Supplier Diversity/MBE Development: OSDS is excited and hopeful for 2021. Along with our continued education, outreach, and advocacy efforts we will create a small business/DVBE emergency registry database of firms who wish to be included on emergency contracts in response to disasters to address contracting disparities. We will also translate all of our educational documents and videos to Spanish to expand the reach, access, and effectiveness of our program.

2021 Horizon for Supplier Diversity/MBE Development: Our horizon for 2021 is to really integrate our certification into our marketing strategy and educating our customers more on what it means to work with an MBE supplier. We will also add MBE focus...to help ensure we are doing all we can to support and drive our MBE business.

Rap for Charity is a freestyle rap battle where one team competes against another in a series of rap battles. The audience will vote on the winning team. The winner picks a charity to receive the winner’s pot.

Joan Kerr, Director of Supply Chain Responsibility
Pacific Gas and Electric Company

Joan Kerr serves as Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E) Director of Supply Chain Responsibility (Supplier Diversity, Sustainability and Ethics). She joined the company in 2009 and under her leadership everything she touched turned to gold. Before joining PG&E, Joan served as Executive Director of AT&T’s Supplier Diversity Program where she led the creation of a best-in-class program.

Her Golden Touch:

Her Service: Board service for California Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce, National Utilities Diversity Council, National Minority Supplier Development Council, NGLCC Corporate and Procurement Councils, Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council, WBENC’s Encore Committee, and WRMSDC; co-founder of WEConnect International.

Joan will be retiring this month. We know because of her bold leadership that she has left an impressionable mark within our world of supplier diversity and inclusion.
